I have, officially, dropped out of the TVD fandom. Its a weird feeling actually, probably because this is the first real fandom that I've been in and dropped so completely. Probably because this is the first fandom (with the exception of Star Wars) that I have been n so completely. I created an lj so I could talk to people about it, I started a tumblr totally dedicated to it. I wrote meta, produced and actually published fanfiction, watched videos, downloaded music. It introduced me to the real world of internet fandoms in a way I hadn't been involved before, and for that--I think I'll be ever grateful. It was a fun run while it lasted, but I just can't anymore. I can't care, I can't watch, I can't blog, I can't write.
Thursday passed, and I legit forgot about it. I was watching the season finale of Haven, which is literally a study in my OTP never getting together and getting like, a kiss a season, and I legit forgot about TVD until I popped onto my tumblr and my dash was full of it.
To be totally honest, I need to unfollow more TVD blogs. I feel kinda bad, cause I have followed some of these people for a long time, but if I never see Klaus on my dash again it will be too soon. I watched that clip of Elena, Stefan, and Rebekah from the latest episode, and I think its official that Nina Dobrev's face/voice combination whilst doing dumb!Elena is actually capable of sending me over the edge of madness. Plus, I mean, I love Stefan too eternity and back, but I cba to even care about his story at this point. There is too much shit with this show for me to even try and get over.
So, so long TVD. You were beautiful, and you died too young. *moment of silence for what might have been*
Ouat. Like many shows, *cough*gossipgirl*cough*, this is one of those ones I have been watching from the beginning and like, through sheer momentum, have just kept watching. Honestly, I think its mostly morbid curiosity? Like, I'm still 50% convinced this show is still some sort of long form troll, and we are waiting for the punchline, because it's so unbearably awful I'm not sure its possible to be serious? I mean, firstly (because I am a shallow person) I find the whole thing to be visually offensive, both because I find none of the actors pretty (with the exception of the chick who plays Ruby and Hook, because guy liner sometimes amirite) and also because they chose to create their fairy tale costumes from the left overs of a Tim Burton movie and a dumpster behind a high school theater. It's a tragedy really. Also, the acting is like...I don't even have words for it really. Belle's accent is the worst thing (I couldn't handle her in Lost either) and also the performances are embarrassing. (Except Ruby and Hook, and no, I'm not biased. Okay, Regina isn't tragic. Or Raphael Sbarge. But, then, who wouldn't love Carth Onasi in cricket form?) And the storylines are so wtf I don't even know. Belle makes me want to actually commit harakiri with a spoon. Between her "using her books to be a hero" and "falling in love with the monster" just like...gag me actually. And legit no one else is interesting on this show. Truthfully? I'm rooting for Hook and Cora. They can hook up with Ruby and go be awesome somewhere else.
Also, I finally watched Easy A and it was literally the worst movie I have ever seen. Seriously, I don't they could have fucked it up more if they tried. I mean, her mom actually said she slept around because she had low self esteem, and then the whole movie ended up being a giant lesson about how women who have multiple sex partners outside of a committed relationship are whores and should feel bad about themselves, because they basically are the worst. And that the only reason a woman whores around is because she is not a whole person and obviously needs sex to make her feel better. Excuse me while I go throw up in a corner.
Also, this is a totally random aside, but I am buying a new computer and I am suuuuuuuuuuuper excited. Its an Alienware, specifically made for gaming, and I am so excited because I will get to play all the video games I love and can't play on my current computer. (I have finally excepted I am a gamer, so, sigh.) Its coming with a 21 1/2 inch LED screen. Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect are going to be things of beauty. Excuse me while I wipe up my drool :D Also, I need more gaming friends on Steam or something.
Also, this year, I am starting a campaign against Strong Female Characters. They are literally the worst thing ever. Because, with a rare few exceptions (Kara Thrace BE MINE), strong female characters are built with several major flaws. Firstly, there are rarely characters. We are told they are awesome, we are told they are amazing, and we are told they are SFCs. But only through their relationships with other people, usually men. Rarely do they get to exist as characters on their own. Also, and this is not always the case, SFCs tend to stop being women. They essentially take on all male traits, become "one of the guys" that people complain so much about, and cease to show their feminity. In order to become strong, they must also cease to be female in all ways except genetics and biology. Which, you know, sort of defeats the point of a female character. Or, if they are allowed to keep their feminity, it becomes all sexually focused. And of course, the second a female character gets too strong, too independent--they must be put down. They become evil and crazy and they must die, usually at the hands of a man who loves them (thanks for the quote Matthew Stover.)
But of course, this is rarely recognized. Most people love the fuck outta SFCs. They call them "badasses" and worship them as heroes. As women who they can look up to. Which, I guess if you don't know any better. *sigh* Anyway, a longer rant and post is coming, but watching TV and movies lately has given me an illness about ladies, and I mostly am like, ug. I'd rather a male main than an SFC. See, what media fails to realize is that you don't always have to have a same sexed main character in order to feel something for that media.
I have no suitable conclusion for this post, cause I'm sleepy. But my blog is going less TVD, more posts on teevee, movies, and stuff in general, esp. concerning the treatment of women.
gnight. Ima go read Mass Effect fanfic and then go to sleep

I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW. Happy for you, though. Now you can focus on better fandoms aka every single fandom ever ;)
LOL OUaT is such a joke. I watch it for deep, intellectual reasons tho:
(But I've watched clips from S1 and read a lot of summaries. I like Emma. Also Emma/Neal. And I like Ruby/Charming. But I wouldn't watch if it weren't for my aforementioned deep, intellectual reasons)
Your thoughts on strong female characters intrigue me. I'd like to read a meta on it haha. Also, can I ask what a "SEC" is? Google says it's the 'Securities and Exchanges Commission' or something, which I'm not sure is what you meant... ;)
YAY for new computer stuff :)
I believe in your strong intellectual reasons. They are sound :D
Also, Ruby is the best thing on that show, and I ship her with everyone ever
Also, lol. I meant SFC, as in an acronym for "strong female character" but as it was late and my brain was melting, it came out SEC. lol my life :D
also, re: computer: I am so happy it is unhealthy
I'm a strong intellectual, that's who I am:
(lol)
OH I seeeeeee. Well, I can't wait for your rant on them. I am massively confused re: the SFC debate, tbh! So deff looking forward to what you have to say! :)
SO WORTH IT. YOUR REASONING IS SOLID AND I APPROVE
